Can any one explain this code in detail to me http://www.keylessonline.com/song/tamil/karn/InnumKonjaNeram_Maryaan_C_Details.html ?

Thanks to all. In particular to 12f.

I am a very beginner to Piano. I have converted the notes to western. When I try the first line it does not sound right. Must be I am not playing it right. The end bit of the first line sounds right. Not the beginning.

Sa and PA are perfect fifths of carnatic music.. How can then c# be used for sa if g is used as PA? Please kindly reply considering that I'm not week versed in western music as such but I use simple logic only to read the western sheet music and notations.. And it has always worked for me

I'm not sure, what's the actual question here.

yes - Sa and Pa are known as universal sounds in carnatic. It doesn't have sharp or flat notes. Now, how to decide sa and pa for songs that are based on other 'key'? it's tricky but you can get it easily if you use a keyboard. suppose the song is on D and the sa-pa-sa combination would never suit that song. but re-da-re combination will suit. Now, the note SA will not change (universal) but the frequency it takes from DA, so the note will be Da, but we still call it as PA. Now if you can transpose your keyboard, it's easy to play that song - when you have transposed to +2 semitones

The question was that in that transposition from carnatic to Western, sa-pa-sa was c#-a-c# which I want able to understand. I myself use d-a-d-a to c-g-c-g... I've also tuned my violin to e-b-e-b for some songs...

yes tunig e-b-e-b means you are playing for '3 kattai'. in western it is equivalent to transposing to +4 semitones.

In carnatic we do not have keys for karnatic tuning. So we have to re-tune our string instruments to the sruti (key) of singer. It is same for playing different movie songs. many songs are in D, D# or E. so you will have a hard time re-tuning your violin. now, one easy workaround is use free softwares like audacity. open your song in audacity and transpose the song to E (since the violin is tuned to E).

suppose a song is is C and your violin is tuned in E. Now open this song in audacity and transpose the song to +4 semitones. You will have a matching pitch with that song and you would be able to practice that song easily. This will help you to re-tune your violin for different songs.

did i answer your question?
